It’s botanical name is Electric Cardamom. It is a herb with seeds that are used as a spice and in medicine. It grows 5 to 9 feet high and has course leaves 2-1/2 feet long.The white flowers are borne in loose,irregular spikes about 2 feet long.The root stock is thick and creeping.
Cardamon grows easily in moist mild climates, specially in shaded situations. It is commonly cultivated in Jamaica and is sometimes raised in green house. It is easily propagated by seeds and division of roots. Cardamon becomes exhausted after bearing 3 or 4 Crops.
It is also grown in India. In ancient times, the dried seeds were used in asthma, bronchitis, piles, disease of the bladder, headache, earache and toothache. The seeds were also used in flatulence and dyspepsia.
